Erica Gavin's portrayal of the "Vixen" was considered a masterpiece of acting. Erica Gavin as the incomparable doll in her role in BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS was considered superb. In Erika's Hot Summer she is truly described as the ultimate woman every man hungers for.
But love, for Erika, is not a tumble in the hay. She wants and needs understanding, compassion and recognition for the woman that she is, and it is that she finds in Steve, a sex-hungry man-about-town played by Walt Phillips.
Inside him, Walt wants the kind of woman that Erika is, but in his frustration he swings toward Sherrie, who is totally unlike Erika except for her physical endowments and her desire for sexual experience. Sherrie is passionately and violently portrayed by Mercy Montello and gives of herself, as only she can, to Steve in love scenes which are most unusually filmed and excitedly portrayed in a series of sequences of sexual discovery and gratification which is a
study in depth of all the physical delights culminating in the shattering realization that theirs is apparently a lasting and meaningful relationship.
Inside of him, however, Steve still has a feeling there is something lacking. While walking alone on a windswept, sunny beach he sees Erika, whose beauty captivates him and with some sixth sense becomes aware of a quality which he has not recognized in Sherrie. Steve invites Erika to his apartment, but she denies him, agreeing, however, to another meeting the next day on the beach.
Steve sees Sherrie that evening but is not his usual loving self, his thoughts are with Erika, and Sherry senses something lacking in their love-making. The next day when he meets Erika, he uses all of his persuasion and charm and finally succeeds in convincing her that perhaps he, too, has a feeling such as hers of fulfillment rather than just simply a love affair.
What follows is a series of the most beautiful and convincing manifestations of love between a man and a woman that has ever been filmed. Erika, for the first time, feels free to love and be loved, totally abandoning any inhibition she may have had and gives to Steve not oniy complete sexual gratification, but the depth of her love, which he returns with the same fervent and complete abandon.
The confrontation between Sherrie, on the one hand, and Steve and Erika on the other, is the climax of this stark and beautiful story ...
