But what elevates the film is the emotional distance Oki created when shooting the story. The sex acts are objectively photographed with more focus on puzzling symbolism than eroticism. Filmed entirely on the island of Shikoku in southern Japan, the story centers on the doings of two young-looking parents and their grown children. The youthful demeanor of the elders deeply disturbs the youths, who also suspect that their parents may be gay. They confront their parents, who tell them that they look so young because they come from the future. Somehow, their revelation is related to the tear-like marks that appear on their bodies when they have sex. The parents are not the only odd ones in the family, nor even on the island
